Outdoor garden hammocks can be purchased in many different styles and types including fabric and rope hammocks, portable hammocks, chair and swing hammocks. Which one you decide to buy my own on a variety of factors. We’ve put together some information here about the types of materials and ropes used to construct hammocks.
These are probably the most comfortable hammock to buy, the most comfortable ones being quilted fabric hammocks which look very luxurious to. To find a comfortable hammock look for one that says it’s suitable for sleeping! Some materials used in hammocks are as follows:
Polyester: Polyester, while not perhaps as comfortable as cotton it is more durable, especially if you are going to leave a hammock outside for long periods of time. it is also less likely to develop mold or mildew than cotton.
Cotton: cotton is comfortable and attractive but it will not last if left outside for too long. It is also subject to mold and mildew so is perhaps not the best fabric to use for outside garden hammock. A cotton polyester mix would be a better choice.
Canvas: Canvas is a good choice for an outdoor gardenĀ that it is very tough and durable especially if made from polyester or polyester cotton mix. Make sure you check what the canvas is made from as some are made from pure cotton and this would not be so suitable.
Rope hammocksRope hammocks look good and are perhaps what most of us think of when we think of classic hammocks. They are not, perhaps, so comfortable as fabric hammocks and certainly take getting used to, especially getting in and out of them! To be more comfortable you will probably need to put a material pad in them. Rope hammocks are made of either cotton or polyester.
Cotton rope hammocks: garden hammocks made from cotton are reasonably comfortable as cotton stretches and conforms to your body. They’re not however very durable so should not be left outside and should be packed away when you finish using them.
Polyester rope hammocks: polyester rope is much more durable than cotton and can be left outside safely for much longer. It will not fade or become moldy or mildewed as cotton tends to do.
If you’re buying a hammock for comfort opt for a fabric hammock. A classic rope hammock looks good and if you buy polyester one you can use a removable fabric pad and leave the hammock in place for long periods.
